Master of Theological Studies (AQF Level 9)

The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) provides eligible students with a prior theological degree the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in theology and ministry. The MTS at Trinity normally includes some classroom units as well as independent study. Some students may be able to use the MTS as a research pathway for entry into a research degree.

Who is it for?

People in ministry with a prior theological degree (BTh or GradDipDiv) who wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in theology and ministry. 

Course Structure

Units in this course are completed at Level 8 and above, including at least 60 credit points at Level 9. Unit selection is determined by your individual study goals. You can see the list of units that Trinity offers here. 

Graduates of a Bachelor of Theology, a Bachelor of Ministry, or another AQF Level 8 or 9 award in Ministry or Theology are eligible to receive ungraded advanced standing (block credit) for up to 96 credit points based on volume of the studies in the previous award (e.g. graduates of a Graduate Certificate would receive 48 credit points; graduates of a related Bachelor degree, Graduate Diploma, or Master Degree would receive 96 credit points), with the remainder of the course to be completed at Level 8-9. Candidature periods will be reduced according to the volume of advanced standing granted. 

Coursework Masters graduates in theology or ministry who achieved an overall GPA≥2.0 and who wish to progress to a higher degree by research (HDR), such as the Master of Theology (Research) [link to course page] degree, may undertake an embedded Research Training Pathway (RTP) within the MTS.
