Join the Team: Lecturer in Old Testament

Trinity Theological College seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Old Testament to its faculty, beginning in either January or July 2026. The aim of this appointment is to complement and strengthen the current faculty. This appointment is full-time, and the remuneration is set in accordance with relevant experience and responsibilities against the appropriate award.

Trinity is an independent college in the evangelical, Reformed tradition with the mission of equipping people for effective Christian service by training them in biblical, theological, and ministry frameworks. With a current enrolment of 80 students, and over 425 graduates, Trinity offers accredited degrees from the diploma (AQF5) to the masters (AQF9) level. Trinity is an affiliated college of the Australian University of Theology (AUT).

 

Position Details

  1. Teaching and Learning: Co-ordination of 2–3 units per semester, principally in the areas of Old Testament and/or Hebrew (and potentially units in other disciplines if approved by the AUT, dependent on credentials and experience). This involves preparation and delivery of unit content, assessment and marking, support of students in the unit, and active participation in faculty meetings and retreats.
  2. Pastoral care: This takes place through the leadership of a weekly pastoral care group of 6–10 students; it also includes pastoral care and academic advising to students more generally as the needs arise.
  3. Research: Ongoing research into areas relevant to the program of the College and potential supervision of HDR students.
  4. Partnership: Participation in the life and ministry of the College, including leadership of a mission week team, chapel preaching and participation, other event participation (e.g. Commencement and Graduation, Annual Lecture, information nights, etc.), occasional preaching and deputation at partner churches, and willingness to teach in the Certificate of Christian Studies (a non-accredited award).

Selection Criteria

  1. Whole-hearted support for the College’s purpose and mission, beliefs, and training model.
  2. A mature Christian faith, Christ-like character, and a pastoral heart.
  3. Clear evangelical and Reformed theological and ministry convictions, and a practical commitment to biblical theology and expository preaching.
  4. Academic qualifications, including an MDiv (or equivalent) and a completed or well-progressed doctoral degree, to enable teaching Old Testament to a masters level.
  5. Significant vocational ministry experience in a church- or parachurch-based context.
  6. Recognised teaching, pastoral, and mentoring gifts; previous experience in an educational context is an advantage.
  7. Strong administration and communication abilities, along with the ability to work as part of a team in ministry.
  8. Excellent partnership and networking skills.
  9. A current Working with Children Check or the ability to qualify for one.
